So we’re totally frothing over this year’s Fuse Festival (in case you hadn’t noticed), it’s a great idea and the amount of talented young bands that get showcased to the industry (and public) through Fuse is exactly what we’re all about.
One of the bands that we’re excited to see is Red Ink from Melbourne, they’re headlining the Tuxedo Cat TONIGHT at midnight, highly recommend you head in for look.
We haven’t met them yet BUT we sent over a few questions via email for them to answer on their long drive over.

You’re from the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, is that where you all grew up ? How did it shape your band?
Yeah we’re all from down that way. We all lived within 10 mins of each other which made jamming real easy. Being so far out of the city was real good for us in the sense that we’re kind of disconnected from the ‘cool’ scene. We kind of just do our own thing, and hope that people vibe on what we vibe on.
What’s your biggest musical influence?
We’ve all come from such diverse musical backgrounds, it’s hard to say. Brendan grew up listening to Blink 182, John took a big fancy towards Craig David, Munnzy loved Rage Against the Machine, and Aaron lost his shit to Frank Zappa. We’ve found it real easy writing music though cos we all have a great love of bands like The Police, New Order, an The Smiths. We actually draw a lot of influence from where we rehearse, this dingy bike storage place in the center of Frankston. We experience all types of ridiculous looking out those windows.
What do you like best about playing in Adelaide?
The people. Definitely the people. Every show we play, we always get an awesome response. It’s pretty cool. The intimacy of some of the venues is rad. Places like the Ed Castle and Rocket Bar are awesome places to play cos there’s always stacks of people crammed into a small room!

What are your views on well established music venues closing due to redevelopment/licencing issues?
Balls. Shit Balls.
You’re recording a new EP , what can we expect?
Something new and fresh. We haven’t released anything in a little while and during that time we’ve gone away and written a whole heap of new tracks with a bit of a different vibe to them. We’re really excited about it. We’ve experimented with some new sounds and different instruments, so we can’t wait to get it out!
If you could record the ultimate cover song, what would it be and why?
Probably something that would end up on some covers compilation that would make us a lot of coin. So I’m going to say ‘Sexy Ladies’ by Shaggy.
Listen to their rad tunes here.
Catch them TONIGHT at tuxedo Cat with bands like Jimmy & the Mirrors, Celadore and Penguin Kings. Timetable here.
